Research Development
Academic research is the lifeblood of a graduate institute. Only through continuous scholarly advancement and innovative contributions can an institute establish its identity and visibility in academia. As reflected in recent data, the Graduate Institute of Education at National Cheng Kung University has demonstrated remarkable growth in research output in the humanities and social sciences from Academic Years 2019 to 2023. Continuing to pursue innovative research will remain a key direction for future development.
During this five-year period, the institute maintained a consistent faculty size of eight members. In 2019, faculty members produced 5 SSCI-indexed articles and 1 TSSCI-indexed article, totaling 6 papers in major indexed journals, along with 4 additional journal articles, resulting in 23 total publications. The average output per faculty member was 1.3 papers, supplemented by 9 conference papers and 6 academic books.
In 2020, research output included 4 SSCI and 2 TSSCI articles (6 indexed papers in total), along with 4 other journal articles, resulting in 21 total publications. The average output per faculty member remained at 1.3 papers, with 4 conference papers and 5 books published.
In 2021, output increased significantly, with 3 SSCI and 7 TSSCI articles (10 indexed papers), as well as 2 additional journal articles. The total number of publications rose to 60, with an average of 1.5 papers per faculty member. In addition, faculty produced 10 conference papers and 3 books.

As a comprehensive university, National Cheng Kung University provides a multidisciplinary environment that facilitates the integration of education with other fields, fostering the development of innovative research teams. The institute aims to systematically translate research into social innovation and progress while engaging in international academic exchange.
Furthermore, the institute emphasizes both theoretical and practical research. Guided by the concept of schools as learning communities, it collaborates with the Office of Academic Affairs and various colleges to support faculty professional development, improve teaching practices, and provide consultation services. As the largest university in southern Taiwan, the university also responds to strong regional demand—from Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and the Southern Taiwan Science Park—for continuing education and lifelong learning. Providing in-service credit programs is therefore one of the institute’s important future missions.
Career Development
Graduates of the institute may pursue careers in the following areas:
·Teaching positions at all levels (primary and secondary schools, as well as higher education institutions)
·Civil service examinations (e.g., educational administration)
