Faculty and Academic Achievements
The institute currently has eight faculty members. In addition to engaging in academic research in the field of education, the Graduate Institute of Education at National Cheng Kung University is committed to cultivating specialized educational researchers and high-quality secondary school teachers. Its goals include identifying educational issues, improving teaching methods, and promoting educational reform through research findings and constructive recommendations.
Furthermore, the institute places particular emphasis on both pre-service training and in-service professional development for secondary school teachers in the Yunlin–Chiayi–Tainan region. It actively conducts research on professional education curricula, teaching practicum, and the training of teachers in business, industrial, and medical disciplines. Faculty members also lead graduate students in various research projects and industry–academia collaboration programs, while organizing counseling and guidance activities. These efforts provide valuable opportunities for students to integrate theory with practice and apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
Over the past 29 years since its establishment, the institute has achieved substantial outcomes in research, teaching, and community service, earning broad recognition. Notably, in three consecutive academic years, faculty members Yu Fu-Yun, Lu Wei-Ming, and Dong Hsu-Ying each received the university’s highest teaching honor, the “Distinguished Teaching Award,” for Academic Years 2005, 2006, and 2007, respectively. Professors Cheng Ping-Lin and Yu Fu-Yun were also recipients of the Excellent Teaching Award in 2008. In addition, Professors Lu Wei-Ming and Hsu Ching-Fang have been appointed as Distinguished Professors by the university. Several faculty members—including Cheng Ping-Lin, Lu Wei-Ming, Yu Fu-Yun, Dong Hsu-Ying, Zhao Mei-Ru, and Yang Ya-Ting—have also received the college’s “Faculty Research Achievement Award” in recent years.
According to the most recent institutional evaluation, the institute’s eight full-time faculty members completed a total of 20 research projects and published 97 academic works over the past five years. Faculty members continue to actively apply for research grants from the National Science and Technology Council and participate in commissioned research projects from various organizations, thereby expanding collaborative opportunities. The institute was awarded the university’s “Outstanding Research Performance – Most Improved Department” award in 2004 and received research improvement grants of NT$200,000 in both 2005 and 2006, demonstrating the strong research capacity and professional performance of its faculty.
